With the success of Yellowstone, star and producer Kevin Costner is establishing his own popular brand of cowboy entertainment. And that continues with the upcoming Western from New Line: Horizons. Costner is producing, directing, and co-writing the film. He’s also starring alongside veteran actor Thomas Haden Church.

Thomas Haden Church

Though Kevin Costner is a household name, you may wonder why Thomas Haden Church’s face looks so familiar. The Texas native actor broke through as an actor in 1990, playing mechanic Lowell on the sitcom Wings. Later, he starred in the show Ned & Stacey opposite Debra Messing. Since then, Church has appeared on film and TV regularly, perhaps most memorably in Sideways as the handsome, renegade Jack Cole: a foil to Paul Giamatti’s sad-sack wine enthusiast. He earned an Oscar nomination for the role.

“I was a suicidal TV has-been,” Church once said of his career, leading up to Sideways. But of course, following the critical, Church experienced a renaissance, landing the HBO series Divorce with Sarah Jessica Parker. He’s also Marvel-certified, appearing as the villain Sandman in two Spider-Man films.

Church fans will be excited to see him act alongside Kevin Costner in Horizons, but true Church enthusiasts — like myself — may remember this is not his first Western role. Church was one member of the iconic Tombstone cast, back in 1993. He played Billy Clanton.

‘Horizons’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Horizons is a Western settlement epic covering a 15-year span, before and after the Civil War. The story will cover the natural dangers of the frontier, as well as interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land.

Kevin Costner is co-writing, directing, producing, and starring in the film which begins shooting soon. In addition to Costner — and Thomas Haden Church — the drama will also feature Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson and Jamie Campbell Bower.
