Tim Allen Said Real Life Parallel Impacted ‘Last Man Standing’

Allen has come under fire for not being politically aligned with many in Hollywood.

When Last Man Standing star Tim Allen started in his new role, he immediately felt a connection.

Allen is, after all, a family man. And this isn’t the first time he’s portrayed one. Anybody who has seen Home Improvement can attest to that.

“Although [the Last Man Standing cast] doesn’t replace the wonderful the beautiful Home Improvement family that I still am close to, this family is now, we’re empty nesters,” Allen told Fox News. “Everybody at the show … has grown up …”

Last Man Standing first aired on ABC in 2011, then switched to Fox in its seventh season. There are nine seasons in all. It stars Allen as Mike Baxter and Nancy Travis as Vanessa Baxer, along with Molly Ephraim (Mandy Baxter) and Kaitlyn Dever (Eve Baxter).

Playing Mike can even remind Allen of … well, his actual day-to-day existence.

“We had an episode … where we had to change Eve’s [Kaitlyn Dever] room and it reminded me of real life,” he told Fox. “You know, your kid’s not coming back. They’ll visit, they’re not going anywhere, but they’re not coming back to the bedroom they grew up in.”

“It was really a hard one for me to do based on my oldest daughter, when she left.”

Interestingly, there have been more seasons for Last Man Standing than Home Improvement. “Startling,” Allen said about that fact.
