Two Students Under Investigation For Wearing Body Paint as Shirts to Utah Football Game

Two female students from the University of Utah apparently thought that paint counted as a top. Sadly for them, the university appears to feel differently.

The girls arrived at Utah’s football game against Southern Utah with their torsos and chest painted to support the team. But that was it. Just paint. No shirts, no bras, no sports bras — nothing.

Now, the school is investigating, with the dean of students looking into the situation for “potential non-criminal sanctions,” University of Utah spokesman Christopher Nelson said, via KSL TV.

Women Use Body Paint as Shirts at University of Utah Football Game

“After two women attended the game topless and wearing body paint on their torsos, a female officer asked them to put on their shirts. They complied with the request,” a school statement read.

YouTuber Melea Johnson posted on Instagram about the incident, calling the incident a crime.

“What happened at Saturday’s Utah Football game is illegal,” Johnson wrote. “It is against Utah code, 76-9-702.5, lewdness involving a child. It’s a Class B Misdemeanor!”

The school actually has a fan “pledge” website to remind those attending sporting events that a certain code of conduct is expected.

Melea Johnson on The Incident

“The safety of the student-athletes and the spectators is our top priority,” the site reads. “Spectators are reminded that anyone engaged in unsafe or inappropriate conduct is subject to immediate ejection from the premises. FanUP and make us Ute Proud!”

The pledge also states that “Profanity, racial or sexist comments, and any other acts of intimidation, directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, visiting fans or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition.”

  1. I do believe that the 10th circuit court, which Utah is part of, in the case of Free the Nipple vs. Ft. Collins ruled that local governments could not ban the right of women to bare their chests. So, I think, in spite of the local law, these ladies had that right, especially if there were young men baring their chest, which is often the case at college football games.

  2. These are the issues that get people fired up…..not radical far left indoctrination, Communist ideology, the teaching of critical race theory or “gender reassignment” BS……..semi bare breasts……we’re in big trouble!

  3. Let’s see….anyone can buy an issue of Sports Illustrated with pictures of famous female athletes wearing body paint. Point is: it’s not considered pornography. I suppose you could think of the paint as “very thin clothing”. The paint does cover the body and gives the appearance of wearing clothing (When done well). So some college girls went to a game with their tops painted….big deal. The kids you are supposedly trying to protect….wouldn’t notice the difference. They wouldn’t. …..and if they don’t notice…..what harm has been done? And if they did figure it out? They are just breasts, for crying out loud. No wonder European folks laugh at us!

  4. It seems to me that Melea Johnson is not only attempting to gain views and business but should be prosecuted for defamation of character both for libel and slander these girls by asserting they are guilty of Utah Code 76-9-702.5. However under that Code (1)(b)(i)(B) it states “with the [intent] to arouse or gratify the [sexual desire] of the actor, or the child;” Notwithstanding the fact that both these college girls and the Johnson’s attended the same sporting event, there is no factual evidence yet presented that the Johnson’s were seated next the the college girls at the time of issue. Moreover if we examine the statue, it is broad and silent to define what portion or how much of the buttocks needs to be exposed to be considered “lewd”.

This would suggest that [a]ny female wearing any swim wear or bikini would be in violation of the statue.. Moreover, Utah would have to shut down all public pools, ban swim wear in public ban minors from attending any fitness type competition such and the IFBB or the NPC.

To my understanding the subjects have not been identified and if they are, the County Prosecutor should seek defamation charges against Melea Johnson for both slander and libel when the girls are afforded due process in a court of law! If anyone knows or has seen a photo of Melea Johnson that shows her in a swim suit that evidences any part of her buttocks in the public presence of a minor or online. she should be charged under the same statue(s).as well as defamation. If she has any public posted images in swimwear showing any portion of her buttocks and deletes them due to this hype, then that is spoilage of evidence!

She is just trying to gain attention, likes, follows and subscribers to her business for profit at the expense of these girls! I guess we are going to have to ban swimwear in public as well as nude beaches and resorts. No wonder why this country is going to hell!!!

  5. Oh my gosh! criminal charges? Are you kidding me!
There is something seriously wrong with our society when PDA of gays & lesbians is considered ok almost even encouraged but two young ladies with painted breasts is considered a criminal act! For the love of God people sort it out!

  6. Come on….body paint is no different than a tight tank top with no bra on! Control the women…and their bodies….so sick of it. If you have on body paint you are not topless. You are covered by the paint. Next game every woman should wear with body paint tops or tight white tanks with no bras! Go team Ladies!

  7. Off course it’s a “influencer” that had to make noise about this. Come on people smh, Really? Criminal charges!? First of all, get a real job Mrs. Influencer. 2nd, get over yourself. This world if full of karens that have way to much time on their hands.

  8. Defamation! One person is making this a big deal out of nothing. They did nothing wrong as they were covered. It was not a criminal act. Shame on the people who think it is. There are far worse things that are criminal. This isn’t one of them. Not even close! Get a life lady!

  9. What about how they identify as or free speech or equality or category of art expression. This story is a clear picture of double standards.

  10. I’m not from the area but these students are not minors, right? They’re uni students. So what minors are we talking abt here? I see body paint at certain sports event. I really don’t see this as big deal. They’re in their early 20’s. Let em do their dumb sh*t and they’ll get over it. Can we just focus on other issues at hand?

  11. Criminal Charges.. Really??? What a Joke!!! They were covered up in Body Paint!!!! I’ve Seen Shirts show much more than these woman were Showing!! This is the Problem with This Country… ITS Okay for a 12yr old to decide if they want to be a Boy or Girl with no consideration for the genitalia they were born with!! We Give other Countries Billions of Dollars to feed their Poor, Or Rebuild… Yet we have Veterans living on the Streets here in the U.S. And getting any Help from the Government is Impossible if You’re a Natural Born Citizen… But if You’re a Refugee or Illegal Alien We give them free Food, Housing and Money!! JOKE!!! And Now We’re worried about some College Woman going to a Football game with Painted on Jerseys!!!!??? NO RATIONAL OR COMMON SENCE LEFT IN AMERICA!!!

  12. It is a federal law that anywhere a man can go without clothing on his upper half/torso. It is also legal for a woman to do the same. So women of the U.S. . If he can go top less so can you. They cannot be arrested for it. As far as suppression, oh sorry I mean sanctions. If it isn’t already on paper as a rule or regulation it cannot hold weight. You just have to fight it up to the wright level. No rules or regulations should be aloud to overrule, cancel out, or modify Federal Law.

  13. I believe that there are worse things being taught to children attending these games than painted topless women, MEN are allowed to do this!! ” Go shirt less in public/ body painted and it is totally acceptable. What about all the foul language and Alcohol consumption also teaching our children to hate yes hate! If it’s not your team it’s ok to shout out vitriol and contemptuous jargon but don’t paint up any itty bitty bits and go to a public event!

  14. Ridiculous….kids wouldn’t of noticed at all. Bodies were covered and nothing wrong with that. I guess it’s cool for sports illustrated to do that but not students.
