Virgin River Becomes No. 1 Streaming Show With 2.64 Billion Minutes of Viewing Time

Virgin River has been taking Netflix viewers by storm ever since the first season, which was released in December of 2019. Now in its fourth season, the show has gained even more fans thanks to its dynamic on-screen chemistry and witty plot. So much so that the TV show knocked Stranger Things from the number one position.

During the week of July 18 – 20, Virgin River reached No. 1 on Nielsen’s Weekly Top 10 Streaming chart after the debut of the fourth season in July. The show was viewed for 2.6 billion minutes in the first three days of its release. Stranger things came in second place with 2.3 billion minutes watched.

Virgin River Season’s 1-3 Recap

The fan-favorite show follows Melinda Monroe, also known as Mel, who answered an ad to work as a  nurse practitioner and midwife in Virgin River, North Carolina hoping to begin a fresh start and leave her past behind. As expected, she meets leading man Jack Sheridan, a local bar owner and a US Marine who suffers PTSD.

The duo quickly get to know each other and start a romance, which has been on and off for the four seasons. The show was renewed for a fifth season and has already started production, set to wrap up in November.

The show stars Alexandra Breckenridge, Martin Henderson, Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, and more. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the second season has a whoopin’ approval rating of 90 percent on a 10-critic rating. The third season had an approval rate of 71 percent on a 7-critic rating. 

Other shows that made the list are Netflix’s Resident Evil which is currently at No. 3 with 772 million minutes for eight episodes, followed by The Umbrella Academy with 553 million minutes with 30 episodes, and Prime Video’s  The Boys with 532 million minutes for 24 episodes.
