Dave Chappelle Attacked On Stage During L.A. Performance

Comedy legend Dave Chappelle was attacked by a member of the audience during his set on Tuesday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Security gave chase to the attacker and then subdued and detained him off stage. The lunatic was escorted from the venue on a stretcher and witnesses said that he appeared to have injuries to his arm and face.

“That was a trans man,” Chappelle joked afterwards. Making an obvious callback to the “controversy” that he was involved in with his Netflix special, The Closer.

“I’ve been doing this 35 years. I just stomped a [n-word] backstage — always wanted to do that,” he added, alleging that he got in a few good ones before coming back to the stage.

He also tried to make triple light of the situation by asking, “Was that Will Smith?”

Chappelle hit the trifecta on covering up the situation by 1) talking about his own controversy, 2) brought up recency humor with Smith, and 3) gave himself a tough-guy out saying he got in some shots.

Perfectly played by one of the all-time greats of comedy.

Chappelle finished his set and then moved on by introducing the closers for the night— a rap duo known as Black Star, comprised of Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli, who were joined by DJ Madlib.
