Shetamia Taylor, 37, risked her life to protect her 15-year-old son as chaos broke out in Dallas Thursday night.

As she shielded one of her sons, Taylor was shot in her right calf. She was brought to a local hospital and later underwent surgery on Friday morning, Fox 4 News reported.

“She jumped on top to cover him on the ground as she pushed him between two cars in the curb,” her sister, Theresa Williams, told WFAA-TV. “All she could think about was her three other boys — where are they at?”

Taylor, who was one of two civilians injured that night, brought her fours sons to the protest, ranging in ages 12 to 17.

“She’s not so much worried about the gunshot wound she has on her leg,” Williams told WFAA-TV. “We’re watching the news in the hospital room, and all she can do is say, ‘Lord, be with those families of the police officers.’ And that’s what she kept repeating.”

“When we got [to the hospital], he was covered in his mom’s blood, scared,” Williams told Fox 4 News. “All he could do was run up to my sister and myself and hug our necks.”

Taylor’s fours sons were uninjured, and she is expected to be ok.
