A man attending the Augusta, Kans., high school graduation was forced to miss the ceremony after shooting himself in the foot. He literally shot himself in the foot.

The man holds a conceal carry permit and decided to hide his semi-automatic pistol in his sock for the outdoor graduation commencement, local news reports. As crowds were filling up the football stadium, the man decided to adjust his secret firearm, because hiding it in his sock was uncomfortable. This caused the gun to accidentally discharge, shooting the man’s right foot.

Either the bullet or shrapnel ricocheted to hit a nearby woman. The woman was rushed to a hospital but it is expected to make a full recovery.

Despite shooting himself in the foot, the man was able to drive himself to the hospital.

He is now facing charges for criminal use of a weapon/possession of a firearm on school grounds, with a possible sentence of five years in prison.
