When Van Jones looked back on the Obama presidency, he saw one big failure

Van Jones has been a prominent face in national television for a few years and on election night his declaration that the Trump election was a “whitelash” raised a lot of eyebrows. Jones spent time in the Obama White House and has been a civil rights pundit for a few years.

In the opening for his new show “The Messy Truth,” Jones bemoaned the state of America, saying that Barack Obama failed to bring the nation together under his tenure. The host stated, “All the speeches and all the tears did not bring us together, and we now enter 2017 as the divided states of America.”

“The big question,” Jones said, is whether “Donald Trump can succeed where Barack Obama failed.” The messy truth, Jones speculated is that “Donald Trump cannot heal our deepest wounds,” just like Barack Obama was unable to heal those wounds. Rather, the host said, it will be up to the American people to create the future that they want to see in the world.
