The Murdaugh family has been in the limelight for several years now as death and tragedy continues to follow their family. In 2019, Paul Murdaugh crashed a boat into the side of bridge with five of his friends on board. One friend, Mallory Beach, was killed. One of the passengers on board was Paul’s girlfriend, Morgan Doughty.

In June of 2021, Paul and his mother Maggie were found dead on the property of their family home. The patriarch of the family, Alex Murdaugh, has recently been found guilty of killing his wife maggie and his youngest son, Paul.
Since these tragedies there have been quite a few documentaries made discussing the timeline between the several deaths surrounding the family. One of the interviewees is Morgan, Paul’s former girlfriend.
She shares details about the relationship between her and Paul, stating that much of it was abusive. Morgan talks about the events that take place leading up to the boating accident that devastated her friend group. The 23-year-old tells quite the harrowing tale.
Her Story
Morgan is not originally from South Carolina. She grew up in Long Island, New York with her parents Diane and Bill Doughty. She moved to the low country during her freshman year of highschool. Her father is a professional landscaper and her mother is a nurse.
She started dating Paul at the beginning of their junior year of highschool. She alleges that Paul was verbally and physically abusive toward her. She shared about the many occasions where he abused her while heavily intoxicated.
“I think that our relationship is just something that I really clung to just because when it was good, it was really good. But when it was bad, it was really bad,” she shared in an interview for Netflix’s Murdaugh Murders.
She describes incidents where Paul would cause her physical harm by punching, kicking, and grabbing her by her throat. She was in the car with him once when he drove home drunk. On the evening of the boat crash, Morgan recalls Paul hitting her for not supporting his choice to operate the vessel while heavily intoxicated.
Moving Forward
She has since filed lawsuits against the Murdaugh family. She has discussed her grieving process for her friend Mallory, including the tattoo that she got in honor of her friend.
Now, Morgan is keeping a low profile. Her social media is private, but she does have a link is her profile for an organization formed in honor of her friend Mallory. It is an animal rescue initiative.
