Along with Ackie, our favorite man Stanley Tucci is said to star in the film as legendary record producer Clive Davis. He was the one who discovered Houston when she was performing at a nightclub in New York City. He went on to sign her to his label, Arista Records.  The trailer shows just that, with Ackie performing the late singer’s 1985 hit “How Will I Know” while on stage.

Tucci, wearing his trademark glasses, is watching her from the audience. “What’s your name again?,” he asked Houston. To which she says, “Whitney Elizabeth Houston.”  Cue the goosebumps!

From there, the trailer goes on to show several iconic moments throughout her three-decade career. Including her performance of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991. It then shows an interviewer telling Houston that her music isn’t “Black enough,” To which she responds, “ I don’t know how to sing ‘Black,’ and I don’t know how to sing ‘white’  either. I know how to sing.

“I might have just heard the greatest voice of her generation,” Tucci says offscreen. The film is set to arrive in theaters on December 21st, and was directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Anthony McCarten. McCarten is responsible for writing the box office hit, Bohemian Rhapsody. Clive Davis, 90, served as a producer on the film.
