Pilot Louis Obergh was returning home from vising colleges with his daughter when they ran into an unexpected problem.
Incredible surveillance footage shows the moment a plane fell from the sky with them inside on Long Island. Obergh deployed the parachute as the plane came crashing down at the Pall Corporation building in Hauppage, roughly eight miles from the airport.
According to NBC New York, they were able to climb out and walk away from the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration said the Cirrus SR22 aircraft was approaching a runway at Republic Airport in Farmingdale when its engine lost power around 3 p.m. Saturday, NBC New York reported.
“The engine died — I pulled the parachute and we landed,” Obergh said.
“We never expected to ever have a problem with this,” he added.
Obergh walked away from the scene with a small scratch on his head and his daughter walked away uninjured.
“We got very lucky,” Obergh said.
When asked if he’d fly again, he said,”We’ll see. We’ll see. It was a scary day,” Obergh told ABC7 News.
