A GOP candidate’s Facebook account wished rape on a journalist — the candidate claimed he was hacked

A Republican candidate in New Jersey is under fire for statements he posted on Facebook. Monday, Daily Beast reporter Olivia Nuzzi posted a story about Donald Trump’s relationship with his ex-wife Marla Maples. Nuzzi says Micahel Krawitz, who’s running for a seat on the West Deptford Township Committee and is a Trump supporter, sent her threatening messages in response to the article. The messages included one saying “I. Hope. Somebody. Rapes. You. Today,” along with the characters for a smile emoji.

Nuzzi said Krawitz followed up with: “Hope. You. Get. Raped. By. A. Syrian. Refugee.” She claims this isn’t the first time she’s received offensive messages from Krawitz. Nuzzi says Krawitz — who is on his fourth bid for a committee seat — has been harassing her for more than a year.

She captured the comments and posted screenshots to Twitter.

Krawitz now claims his Facebook account was hacked. But isn’t totally denying that he may have sent other messages to Nuzzi. Krawitz told the Philadelphia Inquirer he “might have” posted an offensive reply to Nuzzi’s December 2015 post about Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, instructing her to “go back up Obamas [sic] ass.”

The West Deptford GOP said it “does not condone any repulsive, threatening, or demeaning rhetoric in any social media form or otherwise,” but is “contacting Twitter for confirmation that someone hacked his account.” Nuzzi pointed out that the exchange happened on Facebook, not Twitter. The West Deptford GOP has since taken down its Facebook page.

In the wake of Krawitz’s comments going public, Nuzzi has received lots of support online.

Krawitz’s Facebook page is still up and running, and he’s still posting. He continues to share messages of support for Trump but does not appear to have directly addressed the Nuzzi allegations.
