Investigators are reportedly considering charges against Hunter Biden over his taxes and purchase of a firearm. CNN said they may file charges soon in order to avoid doing so too close to the November midterm elections.

Per the CNN report, U.S. Attorney David Weiss of Delaware is leading the investigation into the activities of Hunter Biden. As is commonly known, he is the son of President Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, Congressional Republicans previously stated that they want to initiate new probes into Hunter Biden’s conduct. In order to do so, they would have to win back the U.S. House of Representatives in the November midterm elections.

Per the CNN report, federal investigators don’t want to charge Biden close to the midterm elections in November.

“Current and former Justice Department officials say there is an unwritten rule that prosecutors avoid bringing politically sensitive cases within 60 days of an election,” the CNN report said.

In 2018, the U.S. Department of Justice announced launched an investigation into the finances of Biden. It began before Biden’s father announced his candidacy for president.

The Associated Press reported that the probe revolved around some of Hunter Biden’s business dealings. The activities reportedly revolve around his transactions with China and other countries.

News of the investigation brought attention to Biden’s financial history after it hampered his father’s White House campaign.

Hunter Biden previously confirmed the existence of the investigation.

“I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors,” he said in a statement.
