Last week, when Hillary Clinton said she takes hot sauce wherever she goes, the Democratic presidential front-runner probably had no idea her comment would inspire a Twitter hashtag.

Clinton told the New York radio show, “The Breakfast Club,” that she always keeps hot sauce with her because it keeps her immune system strong. Clinton’s affinity for peppers and hot sauce can be traced back to a 2008 “60 Minutes” interview where she said she’s sworn by hot peppers since 1992. Still, some viewed her response as pandering for the black vote by using a popular Beyoncé song reference.

The conversation about what she carries with her set off the wide-ranging Twitter conversation, #WhatsInHillarysPurse. It invigorated Clinton’s supporters and critics.

Some Twitter users noted the whole concept of the hashtag is sexist, as no one seems to wonder what’s in the wallets of the other presidential candidates.
