On April 25, 1988, Donald Trump and his first wife, Ivana, were guests on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

When Trump was telling Oprah about their relationship and marriage, he began by saying they don’t have “tremendous” fights.

“We get along very well, and there’s not a lot of disagreement,” Trump said. “Ultimately, Ivana does exactly as I tell her to do.”

Many audience members laughed, but it wasn’t before long before Ivana Trump said, “Male chauvinist!”

“Right? Right, men? Is that right? Huh?” Donald Trump said, pumping his fist in the air.

Winfrey clutched her face with her hand, and asked Ivana Trump directly, “He’s not a chauvinist, is he?”

She laughed: “Oh, he’s the worst.”

At the time of this interview, “The Oprah Winfrey Show” was on 120 channels, according to The New York Times. In 1988, the show had 9 million to 10 million viewers per day.

Most of them were women.
