It was 2006, and Carrie Underwood looked downright terrified.
Heck, she should have been.
It was just one year after the Oklahoma native shocked the country with her win on “American Idol,” and she was still just getting her feet wet in the country water with hits like “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and “Don’t Forget to Remember Me.”
So as she stepped out on the grand stage of the 2006 All-Star Game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh on July 11, 2006, it’s no surprise she had a little fear in those beautiful Southern eyes. Yet, in a brand-new video released on the Major League Baseball YouTube channel, country music fans can bask in that memory and what turned out to be one of Carrie’s grandest performances of
“The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Dressed in a black dress with customized “American” and “National” straps, Carrie put all her doubts to rest as she belted out the anthem to a stunned audience. With veterans standing at attention, Carrie gave the song the respect it deserved and gave the audience a final note that they wouldn’t ever forget.
Flash forward 10 years, and Carrie remains one of country music’s brightest stars. Fans can check her out throughout the remainder of July, performing concerts in Iowa, Oregon and Canada.
