OK all you youngsters – brace yourselves.

There was a time not so long ago that every American student would begin their school day reciting not only the National Anthem, but maybe also even singing a little tune called “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee.”

And for a moment, a classroom of students from all different backgrounds, all different colors and all different nationalities joined their voices in an ode to the country that they loved. And while we didn’t know it at the time, it was powerful to say the least.

Fast forward to 2016, and heck knows the song doesn’t get the attention it deserves much anymore. But three years ago, on a crisp day in Washington, D.C., the song was sung in the most beautiful of ways by “American Idol” winner and all-around music superstar Kelly Clarkson. And even though it was three years ago, the performance still gives us a serious case of the goose bumps, especially when she hits those last few notes.

Heck… for some of us, it just might even be a serious case of tears.

Whatever this song does for you, let it remind you that this country remains a “sweet land of liberty” where freedom will always ring.
