Good news NFL fans, Damar Hamlin is awake and talking to his team and family as he’s recovering after suffering a cardiac arrest during a game. The Buffalo Bills confirmed that the 24-year-old indeed FaceTimed his teammates for a meeting and confirmed that he was okay. The player apparently told them, “love you, boys.”

Hamlin collapsed during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, and recently had his breathing removed at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The team released a statement on Friday, saying, “Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery.”

“His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.” Luckily the Buffalo Bills player has made remarkable progress and is currently in recovery, and is now “neurologically intact.” Hamlin’s childhood friend and Carolina Panthers safety Kenny Robinson went on to confirm that he is up and talking.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott went on to add, “The guys immediately stood up when they saw… It was brief but much needed, hopefully for Damar but also for the team.” McDermott also hailed assistant athletic trainer Denny Kennington who administered critical CPR to the player at the time of the event.

“For an assistant to find himself at that position and needing to take the action that he did and step up and take charge like he did – and there were others on the field as well – is nothing short of amazing,” McDermott said during a news conference.

“And the courage that took – you talk about a real leader, a real hero in saving Damar’s life and just admire his strength.”
