NFL Fans Are Terrified of Washington’s New Mascot: ‘This is Who Greets You in Hell’

The Washington Commanders have a new nickname and now, a new mascot too. It’s a pig. A big, scary pig.

How you come up with a pig for the nickname “Commanders,” we will likely never know. We don’t really know what a commander even is, so the team probably figured if it rolled out a pig, people would just accept it.

And people probably would, but this particular mascot is … well, frightening.

Washington Commanders Get New… Pig

Interestingly, the Commanders didn’t introduce the mascot, known as ” Major Tuddy,” until Jan. 1, or a week before the regular-season ends. Maybe they wanted to wait until the New Year. Some suggest Halloween may have been more fitting.

“This is who greets you in hell,” read one comment.

Die-hard Washington fans may remember the offensive line back in the 1980s known simply as “The Hogs.” It was a moniker of affection, as that offensive line is considered one of the best in history. It was scary for opponents. So that apparently is where the pig mascot comes in. It is also scary for opponents — or anyone.

“Watched this and didn’t have a single, peaceful or good dream last night,” one wrote below the video of Major Tuddy’s introduction.

For the record, the Commanders lost the game to the Cleveland Browns, making Major Tuddy 0-1 as an NFL mascot. But he’s apparently 100-0 when it comes to giving some people nightmares.
