But, it turns out that the country crooner’s relationship has served as new inspiration for more music. So much so that the Georgia native just released a brand-new song with his lady’s name in it!

Shortly after the 2017 ball dropped on New Year’s Eve, Sam released an emotional tune titled “Drinkin’ Too Much.” The 32-year-old star revealed the news to fans via Instagram with a featured piano part from the song, as well as the simple caption, “Redemption.”

Sam also released two versions of the fresh cut on SoundCloud, which you can listen to below.

In the song, you’ll notice that Sam wears his heart on his sleeve. The lyrics address his rise to fame and sound much like an apology note to his muse. Sam utilizes his signature talking sound on confessional words like, “I’m sorry I named the album ‘Montevallo.’/ I’m sorry people know your name now/ and strangers hit you up on social media. / I’m sorry you can’t listen to the radio. / And drive out to the place we used to get peaches down in Pelham. / I know you want your privacy / and you got nothing to say to me, / but I wish you’d let me pay off your student loans with these songs you gave me.”

Fans may recall that the country artist’s tumultuous relationship with Hannah inspired him to pen a handful of cuts off of his debut album, “Montevallo.”

Now that we’ve got a taste of what’s presumably a sophomore album, we can’t wait to hear what else Sam has in store for 2017!
