As the President-elect’s transition team tackles filling cabinet positions and staff roles, the change in administrations will also come with a change to the Office of the First Lady. Reportedly, the office typically reserved for the first lady will be renamed as the Office of the First Family, perpetuating rumors that Trump’s daughter Ivanka will serve in a first lady-like capacity.

“She has the potential to be the next Jacqueline Kennedy,” said Andy Och, author of “Unusual for Their Time: On the Road with America’s First Ladies.” “She’s a high fashion icon, a business woman. She’s involved with philanthropic and charitable endeavors.”

Incoming first lady Melania Trump has been clear that she will remain in New York while she and Trump’s young son Barron finishes out the school year. She was also slightly withdrawn from Trump’s presidential campaign, furthering the assumption that she will split the duties typical of the first lady with Ivanka.

Speculation over Ivanka Trump’s White House role only grew larger this week when she officially announced a formal leave of absence from the Trump Organization and from her own fashion brand via Facebook. She also said that she and her husband Jared Kushner will be moving to Washington, D.C., so that Kushner may serve as a senior adviser to the president, a move that has generated controversy given that anti-nepotism laws forbid public officials from hiring family members.

Although, Ivanka Trump did not specifically say whether or not she will serve in any official capacity for her father’s administration, she did say, “I’m grateful for the overwhelming amount of outreach I’ve received from people all across America who have shared their stories and offered to extend their ideas and expertise in the areas I am deeply passionate about, including the education and empowerment of women and girls; leveling the playing field for female entrepreneurs and job creators and unleashing the potential of women in the workplace. I am eager to hear more from them as I determine the most impactful and appropriate ways for me to serve our country.”
