Just a short time after his cover of Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey” went viral with more than 6 million views on YouTube, the Texas dad was back in the front seat of his car, tearing into a brand-new cover of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic “Simple Man.”

“I got a call again from my wife this morning saying that I really need to sing this song for you,” he tells the camera in the Jan. 6 video. “I’m on the side of the highway – I’ve actually pulled off the highway into a church parking lot so I know I am super safe.”

Kris then goes on to open up about the disbelief he’s been feeling lately in regards to all of this newfound attention on his voice and his music.

“Thank you guys for all of the comments and prayers and likes and shares,” he tells the camera, “I’m completely baffled and amazed that this song has done what it’s done. I really had no idea. This was so unexpected and unplanned and amazing — all the same time.”

And then right before tearing into the new cover, Kris seemed to get a tad emotional in talking about his wife, and viewers quickly realized that his heart is as beautiful as his voice.

“She is the love of my life and why I am the man I am today,” he says. “This one’s for her.”
