Passenger Detained at LAX After Opening Exit Door Minutes Before Takeoff

A  Delta Airline passenger who was on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday was arrested after he allegedly opened an emergency exit door aboard the plane which caused the plane’s emergency slide to activate prior to it taking off.

According to Los Angeles airport police, an unidentified passenger rushed to the front of the plane while the plane was pushing away from the gate and went on to ask the flight attendant, “what do I do now?”

 Passengers on board went on to tell Fox 11 that the flight attendant insisted he would sit down, but he quickly ran from her and went to the plant emergency exit doors. He went on to turn the latch, open the door and quickly slid down to the deployed emergency slide.

Delta Passenger Goes Wild

 The plane was forced to come to a stop with passengers saying that the man jumped onto the back of the baggage cart where luggage workers were holding him down until LAX police got there.

According to Sgt. Devin Feldman, “He is being taken to a local  hospital for mental evaluation.”

“Airport Police responded and detained the passenger for further investigation. Due to the circumstances, FBI was notified,” Los Angeles Airport Police said via a statement.

“Delta flight 1714 operating from Los Angeles to Seattle returned to the gate due to an unruly passenger. The aircraft was taxiing for takeoff when the passenger exited the aircraft and was initially detained by Delta staff ahead of being arrested by local law enforcement.” Delta Air Lines said about the incident. “Customers are being re-accommodated on a new aircraft, and we apologize for the inconvenience and delay in their travel plans.”

Following the scary incident, passengers on the airplane were then escorted off and moved to another plane. The flight was said to be heading from LAX to Seattle, Washington, but was delayed 3 hours due to the incident.
