Starbucks Accidentally Charges Couple $4K for Coffee Order

Everyone knows Starbucks coffee is a little more expensive than most, simply because they promise it is better than most.

But is $4,000 better? Well, that would be hard to buy. Nonetheless, that is precisely what Starbucks charged one Oklahoma couple — forcing them to cancel a scheduled trip.

Jesse O’Donnell said Jan. 7 was a day like any other day, with the father of four making his typical coffee run. He said he ordered an iced Americano for his wife and a venti caramel frappuccino for himself.

Actual retail price? About $10. What the Tulsa-area Starbucks actually charged him? Precisely $4,456.27. Sadly, no one bothered to look at the receipt, and you can’t blame them. After all, we can usually trust what a company says it’s going to charge.

Instead, O’Donnell’s wife, Deedee, didn’t notice until her credit card was declined hours later, she said, via the New York Post.

It gets better. Or worse. Once the O’Donnell’s realized the mistake, Starbucks offered to send checks for the difference. And that is exactly what Starbucks did.

But those checks bounced.

“We contacted their customer service helpline probably 30 to 40 times that day,” Jesse said, adding that his family was forced to cancel a family trip because of the error.

Eventually, Starbucks came through, after admitting that the checks were no good because of a “typo.” The company swears a new set of checks has since been delivered and cashed. But that doesn’t make the incident any easier to forgive if you ask the O’Donnells.

“This is something that has caused duress in our family and hopefully others don’t have to go through something like this,” Jesse said, via The Post.
