Adele fights through tears during a haunting tribute to George Michael that came with a live TV moment for the ages

So said pop singer Adele as she stopped her performance of “Fast Love,” by George Michael mid-performance at the 59th annual Grammy Awards.

Adele made a surprise second appearance on the program to pay tribute to music legend George Michael.

Michael died in his sleep on Christmas Day.

A visibly moved Adele apologized to the assembled band and the show’s producers after she insisted that they restart the song so she could pay proper tribute to George Michael. Adele called back to her 2016 Grammy performance when a microphone fell into her piano, impacting her audio.

At the conclusion of the song, Adele received a standing ovation as she let her tears flow.
