Thursday was the third day the 67-year-old was away from the show. “She’ll be back next week,” Behar stated. “She’ll be back.” On Wednesday, Behar stated that “Whoopi is still out, coughing up. I’m sorry, you’re stuck with us. She’s fighting a bad cold.”

Sunny Hostin went on to add, “Those colds are going around.”

On Tuesday, her first day absent, Michael B. Jordan started off his segment with heartfelt well-wishes, saying, “Shout out to Whoopi. Mwah! Get better.”

Goldberg was six a few times over the course of last year. In November 2022, it was reported by Entertainment Weekly that Goldberg had contracted COVID-19 for the second time, causing her to take a break from her hosting duties on The View. During her absence, Sara Haines stepped in as a moderator, alongside co-host Sunny Hostin and new additions Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

In January 2022, Goldberg received a positive COVID-19 test result and had to take some time off from her hosting duties on The View after the Christmas holiday break. She told the co-hosts of her diagnosis through a live stream and shared that she had been experiencing mild symptoms during the break, prompting her to take some time off to heal.

“It was a shock, because I’m triple vaxxed, I haven’t been anywhere, I haven’t done anything. It’s one of those things where you think, I’ve done everything I was supposed to do… Yeah, it doesn’t stop omicron,” Goldberg stated.
