23 Year Old Georgia Policeman Dies Suddenly During Foot Chase

Officer Clarence Williams of Cairo, Georgia died suddenly on January 28th, 2023 after collapsing during an on-foot pursuit of a suspect.

Williams was performing a traffic stop when the driver of the car took off on foot.

The ‘Officer Down Memorial Page’ had this to say about the incident…

“Officer Williams was assisting a Grady County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop in the area of 10th Street and Robinson Avenue. The subject fled the vehicle, and the officers pursued him. During the chase, Officer Williams collapsed and was unable to be revived.”

William’s cause of death has not been determined. He had joined the Cairo Police back in 2020.

The Cairo Police Department made a memorial post for Williams, stating that Williams “quickly gained the respect and love of all that met him.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has reportedly begun to investigate his death, and the circumstances that led to William’s collapse.

At just 23 year old, Williams had already chosen to serve his community. Losing the best members of our society so young is truly a tragedy.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of Cairo’s very own sons and a member of our family here at Cairo PD.

Master Patrol Officer Clarence “CJ” Williams passed away while on-duty yesterday afternoon, serving the community he so loved. He joined the department in 2020 and quickly gained the respect and love of all that met him.

The Cairo Police Department and Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) are currently investigating the circumstances of his passing.

As sudden deaths of young Americans continue to soar, we are left asking why.
