Mrs. Obama had plenty of time for jokes with Fallon, but also experienced a few serious moments.

The outgoing first lady thanked Fallon for being “an amazing partner on all [her] initiatives.”

She called the late-night host “cute” and complimented The Roots as the “best band in the land.”

“It has been surprisingly emotional for all of us,” Obama said of the last few weeks in the White House.

She later choked back tears when thinking about children who are afraid of what’s to come.

“The world is getting better, we have bumps in the road,” Obama said. “I want our kids to move forward, I don’t care where they come from, with strength and hope.”
