Actor John Rhys-Davies, known to millions of fans as Gimli the dwarf in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, surprised many fans this week by getting political on the Adam Carolla Podcast.

During his Monday appearance, Davies explained to Carolla that more needed to be done to help Christianity maintain a presence in the Middle East.
“Basically, Christianity in the Middle East and in Africa is being wiped out,” Davies said.
“I mean not just ideologically but physically, and people are being enslaved and killed because they are Christians. And your country and my country are doing nothing about it.”
Davies also believes that the world has “lost it’s moral compass” and criticized those who have helped usher in an era where he feels people are afraid of having clear opinions and judgements.
“We don’t want to be judgmental,” Rhys-Davies said.
“Every other age that’s come before us has believed exactly the opposite. I mean, T.S. Eliot referred to ‘the common pursuit of true judgment.’ Yes. That’s what it’s about. Getting our judgments right. Getting them accurate.”
