She was buried and all of her surviving loved ones, husband Rudy Gonzales among them, grieved.

The very next day, the family reported hearing noises coming from inside her tomb.

“As I put my hand on her grave I could hear noises inside. I heard banging, then I heard her voice. She was screaming for help,” her husband Rudy Gonzales told Primer Impacto. “It had already been a day since we buried her. I couldn’t believe it. I was ecstatic, full of hope.”

Perez, who was buried in her wedding dress, suddenly collapsed and was found foaming at the mouth on the night of her death. Her parents interpreted this as demonic possession and thus called a priest to perform an exorcism.

Hours later she was declared dead.

The day after her death, however, family members reported noises coming from inside her tomb. They rushed onto the scene with sledgehammers, smashed the tomb, removed the coffin and opened it.

Perez was taken back to the hospital where she was confirmed dead once again.

“Everybody was claiming she was alive so I went through all the necessary procedures,” Dr. Claudia Lopez said. “We evaluated and tried everything but the girl was dead.”

The family still believes Perez was alive for a time. They claimed the glass at the top of the coffin was smashed and that Perez’s fingertips were bruised, as if she had been trying to claw her way out.

Nonetheless, Perez was laid to rest for a second time in the same place.
