About 20 seconds into the video, the woman can be seen hiding the ring in her hand, then walking out of the funeral home.

“As if my grandmother passing away hasn’t been hard enough on my entire family now some low life thief went into the funeral home yesterday around 5:40pm and stole the ring off her finger,” Hicks’ granddaughter Brooke Vaughan Burns wrote on a Facebook post Saturday.

According to Global News, the family said the theft also tore some skin off Hicks’ hand in the process.

Hicks’ daughter, Vel McKee, told the Odessa American that her and her sister Brenda only left their mother’s body for a short time period after touching up their mother’s hair and makeup when the incident occurred.

“We had only been gone for 15 minutes. It’s just heartbreaking,” McKee told the Odessa American.
