Like sands through the hourglass, everything once broadcast on regular television seems to be moving to streaming services.

And you guessed it, that includes Days of Our Lives, which has been broadcast on NBC since 1965. But as of Sept. 12, you will only be able to catch the classic soap opera on Peacock.

Days of Our Lives is not new to Peacock, of course. The streaming service has already carried its spinoff, Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, as well as the spinoff movie, Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas.

And as Joe Otterson of Variety noted, the move to streaming is nothing new for just about anybody.

“This marks the latest movement of a legacy broadcast show to a streaming platform in recent times. Previously, ABC announced that Dancing with the Stars would leave the broadcast network in favor of Disney+,” Otterson wrote. “Season 31 of the show will now debut on that streaming service in September. CBS also shifted its shows SEAL Team and Evil to the streaming platform Paramount+ ahead of their new seasons.”

What is taking the time slot?

Meanwhile, NBC will fill the vacated Days of Our Lives slot with NBC News Daily — an hourlong program featuring the likes of Kate Snow, Aaron Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen and Morgan Radford. That show will also be streamed simultaneously on Peacock, as well as NBC News Now.

“This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement with viewers,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”
