Hillary: Businesses don’t create jobs

Speaking at a Democratic rally in Boston on Friday, former Secretary of State and potential 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said “Don’t let anybody tell you that raising the minimum wage will kill jobs, they always say that.”

Clinton then followed with, “Don’t let anybody tell you it’s corporations and businesses that create jobs.”

“You know that old theory, ‘trickle-down economics?” she added. “That has been tried, that has failed. It has failed rather spectacularly.”

In 2012, President Obama created a firestorm when he said “If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

Many interpreted Obama’s comments as reflecting a general a flippant attitude toward small business by Democrats.

Clinton made her comments Friday while stumping for Democrat gubernatorial candidate Martha Coakley.
