Sherry Lindsay said her daughter attends Mosside Middle School in the Gateway School District.
Lindsay said she was disturbed when going through her daughter’s assignments and discovered that she created a dating profile for an assignment. The dating profile was one of six options she could have selected as part of a character analysis assignment on the book “Tuck Everlasting.”
The daughter also created a profile for a man from the book who is more than “100 years old but looks and acts like a 17-year-old.”
“There is no reason why a child with today’s day and age of kids being abducted and kids being missing that should be given a profile to a dating service at 10. This is not something they should even be discussing at 10,” Lindsay said.
Lindsay said she wants other parents to be aware of the situation.
“I, for one, am a parent that does look at my daughter’s homework. But what about the parents that are so busy they are not able to look at it and then their kid thinks it’s OK? Then next thing you know something happens,” said Lindsay.
The school said they will change the curriculum since a parent has complained and the dating service option on the assingment has been eliminated.
