A Subway customer wasn’t happy with how much mayonnaise was spread on his sandwich bread. So, he shot the sandwich artist who made his sandwich. A shootout in a Downtown Atlanta, Georgia Subway has left one employee dead and another hospitalized.

5-Year-Old Son of Victim Was Present
The names of the victims and suspect have not yet been released by the police. The 5-year-old son of the employee who was shot dead was present in the Subway restaurant when she was murdered. His mother was only 26 years old. The other victim, also employed at Subway, is 24. She was in critical condition when brought to the hospital. Both sandwich artists had only been working at the Subway shop for less than a month.
The homicide occurred at about 6:30 P.M. at a Subway located inside a Circle K gas station on Northside Drive Southwest, according to officials.
The owner of the Subway location, Willie Glenn, told reporters with Good Day Atlanta that the customer was angry because there was “too much mayonnaise” on his sandwich. Glenn also said that the manager on duty was shot at and returned fire but didn’t hit the suspect.
“It’s really unfortunate,” Glenn said. “There’s just a whole lot of shooting and killing going on. And this was just ridiculous. My heart right now is with my employees.”
A Suspect Was Arrested
Police arrested a 36-year-old suspect but charges have not yet been announced.
Interim Chief Of Police Darin Schierbaum said that the majority of homicides in his jurisdiction are caused by interpersonal arguments.
“We need individuals to talk out their disputes, walk away and do not pick up guns,” said Chief Schierbaum. “We can take down drug operations that breed violent crime, we can dismantle gang organizations that breed violent crime, we can stop robbery crews that breed violent crime, we cannot stop someone who is mad because there is too much mayonnaise on their sandwich.”
Fox 5 Atlanta published a police update mentioning that it was a citizen who witnessed the shooting who contacted authorities and helped instigate the investigation.
Deputy Chief Charles Hampton Jr. mentioned that the 5-year-old child who was present during the murder of his mother now needs to go through trauma counseling.
