What Happened: Priceville Police Officer Garry Chapman lost his job after a police chase on September 6. Chapman is the son of Dog the Bounty Hunter.

That police chase resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy. Ultimately, he was brought back to the force after a vote. Chapman has also filed a $10 million wrongful termination claim against the police department.

According to WHNT, the city council unanimously voted to reverse the firing of Chapman. This came after the police force fired him. The Priceville City Council reinstated the police officer.

Dog The Bounty Hunter Speaks Out

Star Speaks Out: Dog the Bounty Hunter applauded the decision.

  • “Garry is my youngest son of 13 children, and he always wanted to be a police officer,” Dog the Bounty Hunter told the city council. “We understand what tragedy is also. But I would like to also commend this committee for giving my son a second chance.
  • “I’m known as a second chance guy and I appreciate every time, and if any of you want me to, you know, stick up for you the next session, you want to be voted in, I will be here for you.”

Chapman had participated in a police chase to arrest driver Archie Hale for a suspected DUI and moving violations. The police chase happened on I-65 before ending in Hartselle. Sadly that police chase ended with Hale allegedly crashing into a van.

Four teens were in the van including Tristan Hollis. Hollis died from his injuries during the resulting crash. Police charged Hale in his death among other things.

Following the police chase, Priceville Police Chief Jerry Holmes fired Chapman for violating the police department’s policies on chases. Mayor Sam Heflin upheld the decision. The mayor declined to participate in the vote over the police officer.

Prior to the firing, Chapman had two written reprimands in the past year at the Priceville Police Department.
