The first half of season 5 aired on Paramount in December 2022 and fans are eager to continue to rest of the story. But it seems as if shooting the second half of the season hasn’t been smooth sailing; so much so that executives are saying that it won’t be available until sometime in the summer.

Off Track

The primary issues are mostly surrounding the lead actor Kevin Costner who plays John Dutton. He requested that his shooting schedule be significantly reduced. This poses a serious issue since he is one of the main characters on the show.

It seems as if Costner is refusing to budge on his demands and the Paramount Network isn’t interested in continuing negotiations. This, along with a series of other delays is putting the production of the show at risk. It could be canceled altogether.

Another series with Matthew McConaughey has been proposed with Taylor Sheridan (Travis on Yellowstone) as a co-lead. This show could replace Yellowstone if some kind of agreement cannot be reached between Paramount and Costner.

We have yet to receive any significant details on the storyline of this new series, but we do know that it could involve most of the existing Yellowstone cast.

The Unknown

The second half of the fifth season was supposed to begin filming in March, but that is becoming increasingly unlikely. Viewers fear that they may never see an ending to the show.

Rumors are spreading that McConauhey could take over Costner’s lead role in its entirety instead of putting a spinoff into production.

Fans are biting their nails as the debacle continues to unfold.
