The First Half of Yellowstone Season 5 Aired November 13, 2022 – January 1, 2023

Yellowstone audiences were teased for months leading up to season 5. Kelly Reilly revealed that Beth would “quietly destroy” her father’s lover, Summer Higgins. The trailer revealed Kevin Costner’s John Dutton becoming Governor of Montana — and then engaging in a bit of nepotism. We also caught a glimpse of Jamie burying a body, which his sister Beth also saw and later intended to use as blackmail.

Adding to all the drama was some real-life drama. Kevin Costner’s wife, Christine Baumgartner, allegedly demanded that her hubby quit the show. Radar Online revealed insider knowledge that Baumgartner’s “patience [was] starting to fray” as Costner took off for months on end to film Yellowstone while she was left behind with the kids.

It was enough to make many viewers anxious, wondering if John Dutton would last until the end of the show.

And finally, after a 10-month wait, season 5 happened. Season 4 ended in January 2022 and filming began again in May.

Yellowstone Season 5 Cliffhangers Won’t Be Resolved Until “Mid-Summer”

So far, a lot has happened. Monica and Kayce lose their second-born child. The dynamic between Beth and Jamie gets nasty as they prepare to organize hits on each other. Sarah and Beth are at each other’s throats. Jamie calls for his father’s impeachment. And Kayce cryptically reveals to Monica that his season 4 vision told him he’d have to choose between her or the ranch. And John Dutton has some deadly skeletons in the closet that may come back to haunt him in the trial.

You know, typical Yellowstone stuff.

The second half of Yellowstone is set to return this coming summer. We can expect 6 more episodes.

Yellowstone Has a Few Spinoff Series, FYI

It isn’t clear if Yellowstone will continue after season 5 ends. However, there are other spinoff series to fill the void if you’re going through withdrawals. 1883 already aired, but the miniseries served as a prequel to Yellowstone and featured legendary Sam Elliott as well as Faith Hill. 1923 premiered on December 23 and had its 3rd episode on January 1. Its 8-episode run features Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren, and Brandon Sklenar.

Another Yellowstone spinoff is in the works as well. 6666 will take place in Texas on a 266,000-acre ranch of the same name (The Four Sixes Ranch). Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan fronted the purchase of the historical ranch after it was listed for $341 million. The ranch sprawls across two adjacent properties, Dixon Creek Ranch Div. & the Frisco Creek Ranch Div., which were part of the sale. Sheridan and his co-buyers reportedly paid just under $200 million for everything.

Whether or not Yellowstone will continue past season 5’s second half is still up in the air. But in the meantime, you can watch 1923, which will release its 4th episode on January 8.

And if that’s not enough, the first four seasons of Yellowstone are available for streaming on Peacock.

The exact date of the second half of Yellowstone season 5 has not yet been released. It will be sometime in “mid-summer.”
