Phoenix police responded to reports of a stabbing outside a Home Depot in Phoenix. Witnesses told authorities they heard a woman screaming for help. They found her sitting next to her husband, Dennis, in the driver’s seat of their red Toyota Prius. She was reportedly suffering from multiple stab wounds.

The press release explains that Dennis exited the vehicle and argued with a bystander before fleeing the scene. The witnesses stayed with the woman and rendered aid. The victim was Dennis’ wife, 37-year-old Aliccia Grant, per FOX 10 Phoenix.

Authorities explain that Phoenix Police officers were the first to arrive at the Home Depot. “As one of the officers continued to apply pressure to the victim’s wounds, the victim made a dying declaration to him identifying Dennis as her attacker,” the press release reads. Emergency services rushed Grant to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Dennis reportedly came clean after the incident and called 911, admitting to stabbing his wife. He also told officers where to find the murder weapon. Dennis told authorities that the couple were newlyweds and claimed they were discussing annulment at the time.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced that a judge sentenced Dennis to 18 years in prison for fatally stabbing his wife. He reportedly pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder, which is a Class One Felony.

Mitchell said, “This wasn’t just a violent crime. It was an act of betrayal carried out by someone who should have been a source of safety, not fear. There is something especially cruel about a murder that takes place within a relationship that’s intended to be built on trust. We will continue to aggressively pursue and hold violent domestic abusers accountable.”
