The Details: The NY Post shares details from the incident. A passenger who was onboard the flight, who has remained unidentified, shared moments from the bizarre experience.

  • The Ryanair flight was flying from Milan, Italy, to London, UK.
  • About 15 minutes into the flight, two passengers began acting strangely.
  • The unidentified informant shared that one of the men began to rip pages out of his passport and eat them, while the other ran to the bathroom to flush his passport down the toilet.

Although authorities have not found any motives for the completely bizarre behavior, the passenger did share how Ryanair handled the situation.

  • “I think Ryanair [was] brilliant in handling it in a certain way,” one passenger told the outlet.

The passenger who spoke to the Daily Star shared all the ways the flight attendant handled this unexpected situation. First, as soon as the seatbelt sign went off, that is when the one man began to eat his passport. Naturally, those around him were alarmed. Afterward, his companion rushed to the bathroom in an attempt to flush his passport down the toilet.

  • The flight attendant did plead with the man to open the bathroom door, as well as try to get in. However, it did not work.
  • Therefore, the flight attendant hopped on the intercom and made an announcement that the passenger claimed was “blunt and to the point.”

While that announcement “freaked people out to another level,” it also told them what to expect.

Flight Rerouted: The pilots decided to reroute the flight and land quickly in Paris, France. The NY Post shares that “Upon arrival, French authorities boarded the aircraft and arrested the two men before conducting a rigorous bag search.”

After a 2-hour delay, the plane was back in the air and on course. The remaining passengers were shaken but unharmed. Ryanair “gave out drinks towards the end of the flight” to help appease some of the tension as well.
