The Details: Abby Pratt and her best friend were eagerly anticipating their dream vacation in Croatia. With its stunning coastlines, rich history, and incredible gastronomical experiences, these girls were expecting an amazing vacation. What they were not expecting was having to walk across the border of a neighboring country.
- When speaking with People Magazine, Pratt admits that she often buys Airbnbs at the last minute in an attempt to score cheaper deals.
- Additionally, the explorer shared that she did notice the Airbnb was in Bosnia, but that she didn’t realize she would need to cross a border.
- The traveler had this to say, “I looked at the map and I saw it was in Bosnia, but I didn’t realize that was like crossing the border. Apparently, Bosnia is not a part of the European Union, which I did not know.”
The Moment Captured on Video
Rather than keeping it a secret, these ladies decided to share their major Airbnb mistake on social media. Abby shared her video on TikTok, showing the two ladies as they had to lug their suitcases down the street and across the border. The text on the video read:
- “When you accidentally booked an Airbnb in the wrong country, other than Croatia, and every taxi driver is not allowed to cross. So they drop you off at the border patrol.”
Despite the unfortunate circumstance, Pratt did caption the video with uplifting news. Her caption read, “We did in fact check in and check out of the Airbnb within one hour….”
Not A Smooth Ride: Despite being able to check into their Airbnb, Pratt and her friend soon learned this would not be smooth sailing. First, they had to stand in the car line with all of their luggage, earning curious looks from other passengers. Later, they learned that each time they came and went from their Airbnb, they would need to wait in the same line at border control.
- Pratt told People Magazine that people were not very welcoming to them and offered little assistance.
- The girls quickly learned that the border control line could have wait times of over 2 hours.
- Once they were safely back in Croatia after dropping off their belongings at their Bosnian Airbnb, the pair quickly found new accommodations in the correct country for the duration of their stay.
The Internet Mocks This Major Airbnb Mistake
Although some people were understanding of the mishap, many people online mocked the two women for their major Airbnb mistake. Pratt shared that many users teased her, assuming she was American due to her lack of knowledge of the countries and their borders. The explorer had this response.
- When people argued she must be an American, Pratt stated, “Which is very true, but I mean a lot of people come to America and they don’t know about all of the state boundaries, but we don’t really have border patrol for that.”
