A horse, rescued from a huge fire, was denied a long life as a survivor, as it was euthanised only a few hours later.
Barn Blaze: The fire broke out in a barn about 50 miles west of Boston, in Lancaster, Worcester County. Emergency services were alerted to heavy black smoke pouring from the structure at around 4.45 pm. They rushed to the scene to find a barn ablaze, and a nearby garage completely burnt to ash.
- The barn was home to horses and several fowl, according to the report. Due to the involvement of livestock, a local veterinarian was also required at the scene. Fire services immediately started to fight the blaze. It took multiple fire departments to get it under control.
No Saving Fire-Damaged Horse
Thankfully, the six horses inside the barn at the time of the fire managed to escape. However, one of them was badly hurt and was euthanized as a result. The horse was put down due to its burns.
- The other five horses were able to be treated and avoided being euthanized after the barn fire. The multiple fowl around the building were also deemed okay. There wasn’t any roast chicken on the menu that day.
As well as the lost horse, which will have been a considerable financial loss to the farmer, there was damage to the barn and its contents.
- In the blaze, the owner lost multiple pieces of tack, farm equipment, and tools. According to CBS News, the total loss of the two buildings is estimated to be around $250,000 to $300,000. The horse that had to be euthanised due to the barn fire will also be included in this considerable sum.
At present, the cause of the devastating barn fire isn’t clear. However, at this point, it is being considered an accident. Thankfully, other than the horse, nobody was hurt in the fire. However, the financial loss is going to be considerable.
