NYC is known for many things, but now a gaping hole in the street may be one of them. Recently, onlookers were stunned to see a hole in a NYC street that revealed the subway beneath.

The Details: The NY Post reported that a crumbling sidewalk near Battery Park has taken a turn for the worse. A hole opened within the sidewalk, giving passersby a sneak peek at the subway down below.
- The hole is about the size of a baseball.
- The hole opened up sometime last week.
- Authorities have identified the hole and marked it with an orange traffic cone.
Onlookers Stunned As Hole In NYC Street Opens Up
An Instagram user who goes by the name @whatisnewyork posted a video showcasing the hole. While it is not large enough for someone to fall through, it is definitely large enough for a person’s foot to fall into.
- The baseball-sized hole showed light coming from within.
- Upon closer inspection, the Instagram user showed that the whole leads straight down to the subway below.
New Yorkers Bash Their City: New Yorkers were quick to respond to the video. Many of them made light of the situation and shared their lack of surprise at the failing street structure. Here are some of the comments users left under the video.

Currently, authorities have taken minimal action regarding the hole in the NYC street. Other than the bolted-down orange cone, they have done nothing else. NYC residents expect someone will get around to fixing it eventually, but it does not seem to be of the utmost importance.
