What Happened: While taking care of a baby, Holly Sheppard had to rush it to the emergency room. It had sustained a severe injury to the head. The two-month-old child was taken to intensive care. The babysitter was immediately taken into police custody.
- While in the police station being questioned, she told the police that the baby had fallen from the crib. But nobody believed her, and she was pressured by the police to tell the truth. “You’re the only one that’s sticking to this story, when everyone else is saying, ‘no that’s a lie, that’s a lie, that’s a lie.’” they said.
The police continued to grill her, putting the reality of the situation in her mind. “We’ve established the timeline, you were the only one with the kid, OK? This kid has very bad injuries to its head. Ok…Something that could have only happened when the kid was with you today. OK” However, she stuck by her story.
Bad Babysitter Breaks
But, as the enquiries continued, it got too much for babysitter Holly Sheppard and she caved.
Babysitter Admits Crime: The final line of questioning really put the weight of the situation on the babysitter. “The baby is in surgery and may die…do you want to be a killer or remorseful? I’m remorseful. Are you a killer? No. Then tell me what happened to that child.”
- She finally broke and explained what had happened. She had dropped the baby on its head, and it had landed badly. “My son’s big monster truck is right there, and I fell over, and I like, tripped, and she fell out of my hands. She hit the floor. I don’t remember anything being beneath her head,” she finally admitted.
But the police were still sceptical even after she admitted what she had done. They didn’t believe that the babysitter had only dropped the infant to the ground. They believe that the injuries are more substantial. But, for now, that’s the story she’s sticking to.
- Her parting message, after hours of questioning, was just an apology. “I just want to tell you I’m sorry for lying…you don’t have to apologize to me…I’m sorry to everyone involved. I dropped her…”
