What happened: According to a report by KBTX, 15-year-old August Borden is a freshman at Deshler High School. The student was injured on Tuesday and suffered multiple skull and facial fractures.
- His injuries were so severe that emergency services gave him CPR before airlifting him to the hospital. The outlet explains that Borden was unconscious for two days.
Family seeks answers: Borden is now recovering at home, but his family still doesn’t know precisely what happened. KBTX reveals that some people have suggested that he fell down the stairs. Others say another student attacked him.
- One of Borden’s friends told the outlet in an interview, “I was shocked. I just didn’t want to believe it was August, I was like, no way.”
August’s biological father, Jason Borden, reportedly said he hasn’t got a straight answer about what happened at school that day.
Police Are Now Investigating The Incident At The Alabama School
Police speaks out: KBTX spoke to Tuscumbia Chief of Police Tony Logan. He explained that Jason contacted them about the incident.
- “He came to us claiming that there was some intent to cause harm to his son,” Logan explained. “But we have no evidence to that point at this time. We’ve not interviewed the student because of his medical issues. As soon as we can talk to him, it will clarify a lot.”
The outlet notes that some people in the community believe that Deshler High School is hiding information. However, the Police Chief says school staff have cooperated with their enquiries.
City officials address incident: Tuscumbia Mayor William Foster also addressed the incident on Facebook.
- “The initial report was the injury was due to a fall,” he stated. Foster calls August’s recollection of events “scant at best,” as he describes the day as a blackout. The mayor also admits there are many conflicting statements. “The initial 911 call was a medical call. Not a criminal call,” he explains. “Some have said he fell off the bleachers, some say down some stairs in a building, some have said he fell down some stairs outside a building. As you can see, there are a lot of different stories, and the stories differ even within those who were there when August got hurt.”
Foster noted that police are performing a “full and active” investigation.
