The Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, is one of our generation’s most well-known urban legends. The legendary ape-like creature has worldwide acclaim thanks to merchandise and movies, so it should be no surprise that there’s a contest about calling the beast.

Calling all Sasquatches: According to a report by local outlet WABI, the sounds of Bigfoot-like calls were heard across the town of Glenburn in Maine on Saturday afternoon.
- Even the Bangor Maine, Police Department got involved. They posted a statement saying, “The crowd is certain to be diverse and of good humor as each contestant competes to lure in the all-time North American hide-n-seek champion, using nothing more than the noises they can make with their own bodies.”
WABI posted a video of the event, where competitors take to the stage to roar and bellow at the crowd through a microphone. I’m not sure any of the noises would immediately make me think “Bigfoot,” but I’d be terrified if I heard any of them in the woods at night.
- Kevin Warner, a member of the Maine Bigfoot Foundation, was a judge for the event. “The foundation’s goal is just to get some recognition, y’know, about Bigfoot,” Warner explained. “People who’ve had encounters or seen footprints. And a lot of people don’t talk about it because they just think ‘they’re going to think I’m crazy.'”
- The outlet interviewed several people at the event, each with their own experiences and beliefs about the Sasquatch.
- Ultimately, the Sasquatch Calling Contest was won by 7-year-old Gannon. He left the event with a cool $100 for his impression.
More Sasquatch Events Are Planned For Maine
A Bigfoot Festival is planned: Warner told WABI that the Sasquatch Calling event is not the last. He said the Maine Bigfoot Foundation intends to hold a Bigfoot Festival in Maine in October.
- The outlet also pointed out the good vibes at the event. One man who showed up in a full-body costume said, “This is all family here. We all love each other. We enjoy the lakes together, and we like to get together and have a good time.
