What happened: According to a news release by the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, the crash occurred on September 7. Authorities have charged 53-year-old Norberto Celerino with multiple murder charges after a collision that claimed six lives. Two others were injured, including himself.
- Celerino was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a tree. The impact fatally injured six passengers. Celerino and one other passenger survived the incident with severe injuries. Per the press release, both the driver and passenger remained in the hospital on September 9.
- In addition to the murder charges, Celerino faces “six felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a felony count of DUI causing injury with two or more prior DUI convictions.”
Authorities Reveal The California Driver’s Previous Convictions
Multiple offenses: The Attorney’s Office reveals that authorities have convicted Celerino of DUI three previous times. He was sentenced in San Joaquin County in August 2020 and again in September 2024.
- The press release notes Celerino’s third prior DUI conviction. However, the complaint is over 10 years old, so authorities cannot use it to enhance the current charges.
- The driver reportedly faces “several special allegations.” Those include “inflicting great bodily injury with a deadly weapon,” which is a vehicle in this case. He also faces an allegation that the crimes involve “violence, cruelty, viciousness, or callousness.”
- A district attorney appeared in court on behalf of Celerino while he recovers in the hospital. Authorities administratively booked him into the Napa County Department of Corrections.
Another Drunken Crime: A woman from Florida found herself in court last month after making threats to a university while drunk. 29-year-old Kristin Galli contacted the University of Central Florida’s Student Care Services in May. She reportedly called the front desk and stated, “I’m gonna ******* blow you guys up.”
- The university tried to call back, but Galli didn’t answer. However, thanks to her voicemail message, the establishment quickly figured out who she was. They also had her phone number stored in university records.
- Authorities questioned her about the call the following day. She reportedly told officers, “I thought it would be funny, and I was drunk when I called.” She faces charges of false reporting of bombing against a state-owned property and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.
