For most golfers, hitting a hole in one is a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, but a Florida man has beaten the odds and hit two in a single game.

What happened: The talented, or incredibly lucky golfer, depending on how you look at it, was playing at The Plantation Golf and Country Club in Fort Myers. Mark Hansen was playing at the annual Labour Day scramble tournament when he made club history.

  • Hansen was playing his way around the course, not expecting anything out of the ordinary, when he hit his first of his two hole-in-ones. He was playing a par 3 on the 14th hole at 85 yards.
  • “Having never had one, you’re always waiting for it or hoping for it, I guess,” Hansen said to WINK. “The first one, your heart just races. It’s amazing.”
  • “I made a comment to one of my playing partners. I’m not going to hit. It’s a scramble, we got our birdie, let’s move on,” he recelled. “Gary replies to me, ‘You have to hit this. You might get a hole-in-one.’ It landed just past the cup with the slope and spin, and we watched it drop into the hole. And from then on, the elation just took over.”

Heart racing and a smile on his face, the golfer already had enough swagger for the day. But, it appeared that luck would strike twice as he lined up for the 9th. This one was another par 3 and was significantly further. Nobody expected more hole-in-ones from the Florida golfer. Especially not at 145 yards.

Against All Odds

Golfer speaks out: Pumped from his previous hole-in-one, Hansen lined up on the significantly longer green. Taking aim and swinging, he pinged the golf ball toward the hole. None of them spotted quite where it went, but they headed over there anyway.

  • “We only had three balls. We were short one more. We thought I possibly sailed it long and out of play,” said Hansen. They couldn’t believe that it could have possibly been two hole-in-ones in one day.
  • “As Bob checked the cup, all he could mutter was It’s in the hole. And from then, the excitement on the 14th was double or triple the excitement on 9. It was a walk-off hole-in-one for us for the tournament, and we just erupted. So much so that the folks on one could hear us.”
