An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged after it was found that he was hiding in a child’s room for 10 days.

What happened: Ryker Xethanial Buxton allegedly had snuck into the 12-year-old girl’s room and was hiding in there for more than a week. It transpired, on his arrest, that she had let him in and was aware he was hiding. The two of them tried to keep the situation quiet, but the family eventually found out.
- However, for 10 days, the 18-year-old boy was undiscovered in the child’s room. “The reporting party confirmed that Ryker did not have permission to reside in or be present at the residence. Ryker was subsequently removed from the premises,” the report states.
Can’t Stay Away
12-year-old goes missing: The 18-year-old man wouldn’t stay away from the child, though. A week after he was removed, the girl went missing. The parents called the police, suspecting that Buxton was involved in her disappearance. After a brief search, both Buxton and the 12-year-old child were found in Provo.
When questioned, the man allegedly admitted to engaging in multiple sexual acts with the child during his time hiding in her room. He also admitted that, given the chance, he would escape and attempt to get to her again.
- “Ryker is currently homeless and is likely to flee if released on bail. During his interview, he expressed that he and the victim had been planning to leave the state,” the police report states.
Charges: The suspect was taken to Salt Lake County Jail, accused of six felonies related to sexual abuse of a minor, as well as one count of felony burglary and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespassing. He will hopefully be kept far from children.
The young child will also need the attention and care she requires after the ordeal. She had clearly been groomed by the alleged suspect.
