Alligators are no small pest. They shut down whole areas when they decide to turn up. The prehistoric predators, although usually pretty docile, can cause a real fuss. The particular alligator that appeared at McDonald’s in Macon, Georgia, was the talk of the town.

Have a Go Hero: The alligator, according to reports, had been sitting around at the McDonald’s for a few days. However, tired of it imposing its big lizard presence, a group of locals decided to wrangle it themselves. Although they may seem pretty slow, it’s not the best idea.

  • Before the officials turned up, the Georgia locals had managed to duct tape its snout closed. Amazingly, none of them had been harmed in the process. However, it was only a matter of time.

An employee at McDonald’s said the alligator had been hanging around for some time. It looked like it fancied a pack of nuggets. “It’s not going to be the first alligator, and it’s not going to be the last. But I think the alligator is hungry… I think it’s hungry.”

Proactive Pedestrians

It’s clear that the Mac, Georgia folk aren’t strangers to the odd alligator here and there. According to one bystander, speaking to outlet 13MAZ, they’re always close to the area.

  • “I’ve never seen one out here before,” said Larry Harris. “But I’ve seen them down at the landfill — that’s why they stopped letting people go down there. They don’t want you getting too close to gators.” Looks like they’re trading in their landfill for something a little less healthy up at McDonald’s.

What really shocked the police wasn’t the presence of the alligator; it was the fact that the locals took the initiative. Typically, unless it’s a situation in Florida, people will give the big lizards a wide berth. However, in this case, they tried to wrangle it themselves.

  • “I have not seen a reaction like this where people are so curious they try to capture a gator themselves and put themselves in harm’s way,” a captain from the local sheriff’s office said. “They decide they’re going to tape the gator’s mouth and take selfies — that’s very dangerous.”
